W5-Midterm project progress
I teamed up with Ly Lyu for my midterm project. We landed on my Chair Robot idea eventually. After an in-depth discussion, we decided to make a chair with its own will and thoughts fighting against its default setting. The chair runs on its own will most of the time, and the chair is self-centered and requires services from the user. The default setting of the chair will kick in from time to time to enforce good behavior.
We plan to use three input sensors, a and a sheet of Velostat and a Time of Flight Distance Ranging Sensor on the back of the chair, an IR-beam sensor on two sides of the seat. The chair connects to p5 for video output, and we will install a vibration motor on the chair as an additional output.

If the user has been away for too long
“Hello? Anyone here? I’m abandoned”
“I’m tired of entertaining myself, time to come back”
“(Making really loud noise)”

The user comes back after a long break
“Where have you been? Making a baby?”
“Wow surprised you still remember me”
“Oh, now you think of me when you need somewhere to sit?”
“I missed you a tone. You are finally back!”

The user leaning on the back of the chair
“What am I? A tree? Support your own back!”
“Don’t be so rude to lean again my back”
